COATGUARD 824

CHEMICAL RESISTANT COATING

COATGUARD 824 is a two-component, high-build chemical-resistant epoxy topcoat formulated to withstand aggressive industrial environments. Whether applied to tank linings or factory floors, it offers long-term protection from chemical exposure, mechanical abrasion, and wear.

For flooring applications, it is used as a final coat over an epoxy midcoat system. For tank linings and vertical surfaces, it may be applied directly over a suitable epoxy primer.

Product Overview

COATGUARD 824 delivers premium protection in facilities requiring chemical durability, hygiene, and long service life. It is suitable for industrial flooring, chemical containment, storage tanks, and processing equipment.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Excellent Chemical Resistance: Withstands acids, alkalis, solvents, and industrial cleaning agents.

  • High Durability: Resistant to abrasion, impact, and wear—ideal for heavy traffic floors and tanks.

  • Seamless Finish: Creates a smooth, non-porous surface that is easy to clean and maintain.

  • Versatile Use: Effective for both horizontal surfaces (floors) and vertical or internal linings (tanks, pits).

  • Strong Adhesion: Bonds securely to epoxy primers and epoxy midcoats.

  • Hygienic and Safe: Non-dusting and low odor after curing, suitable for strict industrial environments.

❗LIMITATIONS: Not recommended for concrete less than one month, any unsound substrate, and substrate with moisture content exceeding 3% as per ASTM D4263, non-hardening sealants and caulking, form- release agents containing wax or oil. Silicone-coated surfaces, expansion joint, soluble stains, asphalt surfaces and areas where water seepage exists.

Application Guide

Surface Preparation:

  • For flooring: Ensure the epoxy midcoat (Coatguard 114) is cured, sanded with #100 grit, and vacuumed to be dust-free.

  • For tank linings: Confirm the epoxy primer (Coatguard 110) is dry, clean, and fully cured.

Mixing Instructions:

  • Mix Part A and Part B thoroughly at the correct ratio as specified.

  • Use a mechanical stirrer at low speed to blend until uniform.

  • Avoid entrapping air during mixing.

Application Method:

  • Apply using lint-free high-tensile roller, brush, or airless spray.

  • Apply 2 coats of COATGUARD 824, with a minimum of 4 hours recoat interval under normal conditions (25–30°C).

  • Avoid excessive or overlapping strokes to reduce lap marks.

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure substrate is clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or grease before application.

  • For chemical or tank use, verify dry film thickness meets service specifications.

  • Clean all tools and equipment with a compatible thinner immediately after use.

System Use

For Flooring Applications:

  1. Primer: Coatguard 110 Epoxy Primer
    – Penetrates concrete and seals the substrate for adhesion.

  2. Midcoat: Coatguard 114 Epoxy Mastic Midcoat
    – Applied in 2–3 coats depending on floor roughness. Levels unevenness and builds thickness.

  3. Topcoat: COATGUARD 824
    – Applied in 2 coats for chemical and mechanical resistance.

For Tank Lining Applications:

  1. Primer: Coatguard 110 Epoxy Primer
    – Applied to achieve strong adhesion and substrate sealing.

  2. Topcoat: COATGUARD 824
    – Applied in 2 coats directly over primer for interior chemical resistance.
